Recruitment

Employers should conduct the recruitment process in such a way so as to select the most suitable person for the job in terms of experience, abilities and qualifications. The selection process should be carried out consistently for all jobs and at all levels. Employers should also be aware that the Equality Act 2010 makes it generally unlawful for employers to ask health related questions of applicants before shortlisting or making an offer of employment. Such questions can only be asked in very limited circumstances.

It is essential that vacancies are advertised correctly to avoid any form of discrimination and that the whole process is carried out fairly and consistently.
