Redundancy
A redundancy situation can arise in one of four ways:
- the employer stops trading altogether;
- the employer trades at more than one location but decides to shut one of its business premises;
- the employer has no further need for employees to do a certain job; or
- the employer needs to reduce the number of employees overall.
In order to dismiss fairly by reason of redundancy, the employer must follow a fair redundancy procedure.
