Grievances

Solutions to conflict

Employees who have a grievance should raise that grievance with the person concerned in the first instance. If this does not resolve the matter, or the employee feels unable to speak to the person concerned, they should raise their grievance with a manager who is not the subject of the grievance.

Grievances are normally raised in writing and should give the employer sufficient details to enable the employer to investigate the grievance. However, employers should recognise that not all employees can properly express themselves on paper and an employer should consider alternative means of submitting a grievance.

The employer should arrange for the employee’s grievance to be investigated without delay. Once that investigation has been concluded, a meeting should be held with the employee to discuss the grievance.
